Corrective chiropractic care focuses on restoring your spine’s healthy alignment, not just relieving pain for a few days. At Lake Mary Chiropractic Center, Dr. Paul Toma, DC and our team use X-ray based analysis and Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP®) methods to measure your posture, build a plan to improve it, and track your progress. We serve patients from Lake Mary, Heathrow, Sanford, Longwood and the rest of Seminole County.

What Is Corrective Chiropractic Care?

Corrective care aims to change the shape and alignment of your spine over time. Instead of only treating where it hurts, we look at how your head, neck, mid back and low back are positioned compared with a healthy spine, then work to move them back toward normal.

A corrective care plan usually combines:

  • Specific chiropractic adjustments
  • Spinal extension traction for the neck or low back
  • Mirror image® exercises and posture rehab you continue at home
  • Re-measurement with posture analysis and follow-up X-rays

Relief Care vs. Corrective Care

Both approaches have a place. Relief care is designed to calm symptoms quickly. Corrective care is designed to address the structural problem underneath them, which is why it takes longer and relies on measurement.

Relief care Corrective care
Main goal Reduce pain and restore motion Restore spinal alignment and function
Typical length Short term About 3 to 6 months of active care
Treatments Adjustments Adjustments, traction and posture exercises
X-rays Sometimes Before care and during re-checks
How progress is judged How you feel How you feel plus measured changes

How We Use Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP®)

CBP is a research-based corrective technique that compares your spine with a model of normal alignment. Your X-rays show where your curves have changed, such as a loss of the normal curve in your neck or a forward head position. Your treatment plan targets those specific changes, and follow-up X-rays show whether they are improving.

Who Corrective Care Can Help

  • Forward head posture and text neck
  • Loss of the normal curve in the neck or low back
  • Posture problems from desk work, phones or sports
  • Recurring neck pain, back pain or tension headaches that keep coming back after relief care
  • Patients with mild spinal curvature who want an assessment (see our scoliosis screening)

Corrective care is not right for everyone. Your exam and X-rays tell us whether it is a good fit, and Dr. Toma will tell you if another approach or a referral makes more sense.

What to Expect

  1. Consultation and exam: we review your health history, posture and range of motion.
  2. X-rays: we take images to measure your spinal alignment.
  3. Report of findings: we walk you through your images and explain your options, including relief care and corrective care.
  4. Active care: adjustments, traction and exercises on a set schedule.
  5. Re-checks: posture analysis and follow-up imaging to measure your progress.

Why Correct Before You Maintain

Maintenance visits help keep your spine moving well, but they work best once your alignment has been improved. Think of a car with crooked wheels: replacing the tires helps for a while, but they keep wearing unevenly until the alignment is fixed. Correcting first gives maintenance care a better foundation.

Corrective Chiropractic Care FAQs

Do I need X-rays for corrective chiropractic care?

Yes, in most cases. Corrective care is based on measuring your spinal alignment, and X-rays are how we see the curves of your spine and track how they change over time. Dr. Toma will explain your images with you at your report of findings.

How long does corrective chiropractic care take?

Most active corrective care plans run about 3 to 6 months, depending on your condition, age and how consistently you follow your home exercises. Progress is re-measured along the way.

Is corrective care only for people in pain?

No. Many patients come in because of posture changes, recurring stiffness or a desire to protect their spine long term. Corrective care focuses on alignment and function, not only on symptoms.

How is corrective care different from a regular adjustment?

A regular adjustment restores motion to a joint and often relieves pain for a while. Corrective care adds X-ray analysis, spinal traction and targeted exercises with the goal of changing the alignment itself, then measures whether it worked.
